Nutrition and Cancer

Epigenetics is a relatively new field of study. It looks at how external and/or environmental factors affect our genes. More and more we are beginning to understand that it is exposure to toxins in our food, homes, personal care products over time which can lead us down the road to cancer. Unfortunately, many substances which we and our parents and sometimes our grandparents have been exposed to (DDT, BPA, glyphosate to name but a few) have been around long enough to cause significant damage but the research is only beginning to catch up.

Of course a poor diet, excessive drinking, smoking, lack of moderate exercise, lack of exposure to the sunshine and chronic stress all contribute to a body which is more susceptible to cancer developing. However, the good news is if we know this we can make the changes necessary to keep our cells, organs and whole bodies healthy.

We all know that prevention is better than cure, so if you create a healthy environment in your body it can stop cancer before it starts.

Even if you have been diagnosed with cancer you can still take positive action to boost your immune system to help your body fight it. It is never too late to make the change.

The latest findings on cancer and our lifestyle

The American Institute for Cancer Research (www.AICR.org) have outlined 3 easy steps to prevent cancer developing:

  1. Diet – maximising the nutritional content of our food
  2. Exercise
  3. Weight Management

It is estimated that the number of cancer cases worldwide will double by 2030 unless drastic action is taken on all levels including each of us becoming more responsible about the health of our bodies.
